San Angelo favorite Thunderosa returns to The Deadhorse for another rip-roaring night of rock, along with Austin's The Black Birds, who are heading west on their summer 2022 tour in support of their new album, 1979.
Singer/guitarist Scotty Roller says, “People have called our music proto-punk, rock and roll, all sorts of things but as they’re trying to label it they all have told us how much they love it and what a break from the normal it is in that there’s no gimmick. It’s just ass-shaking uptempo rock and roll.”
The Black Birds went on the road for a few days last winter with former Geffen artists, Junkyard (Hollywood, Simple Man) and were introduced to bigger audiences and quickly made fans out of them. “Their fans weren’t sure what we were about when they first saw us but by the second song they were all-in. By the end of the set they were meeting us at the merch table buying everything we had, taking photos and getting our show schedule.”
Roller is joined in The Black Birds by Rick Watson on bass and backing vocals. Rick has played with Jesse Dayton, Dale Watson, Palomino Shakedown, Horse Opera, Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers and is a first-call bass player around Austin. Also in the band is drummer Juan Gutierrez. Juan has a drumming style that lies somewhere between AC/DC’s Phil Rudd and former Social Distortion drummer, Chuck Biscuits. Juan has spent time in a long list of bands but most notably, Orange County punk rock pillars, Blockage.
